Showcasing the future of inclusive living: New accessible home in Greenacres

Thursday 7 November marked the unveiling of a newly completed, accessible home at Floriedale Road, Greenacres, showcasing the very best in inclusive living for people with disability. As part of the launch of the 2024-2027 inhousing strategic plan, the event highlighted innovative solutions that place accessibility, independence, and community at the heart of disability housing.

The event demonstrated how the combination of accessible design and assistive technology can provide the foundation for a good, ordinary life for people with disability.

Ivy Diegmann, Chair of the inhousing Board, shared the significance of the strategic plan:

"At inhousing, we are driven by a clear purpose: to improve the lives of people with disability by creating quality homes, developing inclusive technology, and building inclusive neighbourhoods. Our vision goes beyond housing—we are building communities where everyone can thrive, with accessibility embedded into everyday life,” she said.

Minister for Human Services, Nat Cook, echoed the importance of accessible housing, "Everyone deserves a home that works for them—a space where they feel safe, valued, and empowered. This strategy is an important step forward in achieving that vision."

Attendees heard from a tenant who shared their personal story, highlighting how inclusive housing has empowered them to live more independently and meaningfully engage with their community.

Refreshments were provided by the Shine Like Gold mobile cafe, which provides young autistic people with the opportunity to build real-life practical skills through workplace paid employment, at award wages.
